The Peranakan Chinese are a hybrid minority born out of the will to perpetuate the legacy of the early migrant forefathers in Southeast Asia. While accumulating wealth and honour on this fertile land, they had also created a rich culture of their own. These beautiful and intricate bed ornaments bear testament to their unique existence throughout the Straits of Malacca, Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar. A collection like this leaves us with the rich imagination of a lavish tribe. The collection in this book has given many insights into the past.
